Kirstel Jensen began her ballet career at the age of 5 under the guidance of Jennifer Klipfel in her home town of Table View, Cape Town. As a young dancer she achieved Runner Up for the Mable Ryan Award (Grade 5 Cecchetti) as well as receiving the Advanced 1 Cecchetti Award a few years later.
In 2006 she enrolled at UCT School of Dance and graduated with a Dance Teachers Diploma in 2008. During her undergraduate years at UCT she was given the opportunity to join the Apprenticeship Program with Cape Town City Ballet. During her Apprenticeship she was given the opportunity to perform in the Corps de Ballet in ballets such as Sleeping Beauty and Giselle.
Post-Graduation she was accepted into a professional position with Cape Town City Ballet as an Artist. After 5 years with the company she was promoted to Senior Artist and then to Soloist with her first principle role being Giselle in Grahamstown in 2012. Other Principle roles she has performed with Cape Town City Ballet are Older Clara/Sugar Plum in The Nutcracker, The Ballerina Doll in The Steadfast Tin Soldier and Odette in Swan Lake.
She joined Joburg Ballet in August 2014 as a Soloist and has performed a number of roles in La Bayadère, The Nutcracker Re-Imagined, and Cygnets in Swan Lake, Mercedes and Cupid in Don Quixote and has performed the dual role of Odette/Odile in Joburg Ballet’s production of Swan Lake.
