Shana Leigh Dewey was born in Johannesburg. She started ballet at the age of four with Vanessa Eborall and Dorothy de Witt. She completed the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) examinations with distinction and was the recipient of the RAD’s bursary from grade one through to Advanced two. She was the recipient of the Val Whyte Bursary in 2007, after which she joined the JB’s Academy. She was also the recipient of the Friends of the Ballet bursary after completing her advanced one exam.
In 2011 Shana was awarded her solo seal examination and continued her modern dance training with Liza Michelle and Laraine Rabin. She obtained the AIDT Intermediate examination with Distinction and was also the recipient of the Intermediate Bursary.
Shana has won numerous junior/senior ballet championships throughout her dancing career. In 2011 she left South Africa to continue her ballet studies in Havana, Cuba and at the English National Ballet School in London where she was awarded her diploma level 6 in professional dance.
During her studies in the UK, Shana danced in the schools performance of ‘The Nutcracker’ and toured with the ENB’s junior company where she appeared in several roles including Lilac fairy / Golden vine fairy from ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ and Dulcinea and the pas de Trois from ‘Don Quixote.
Shana joined Joburg Ballet appearing in ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Don Quixote’ and various corporate events.
