Joburg Ballet is delighted to again be performing at the Festival of Lights at the Johannesburg Zoo. This year from 26 November to 4 December (except Monday 28 November) we are presenting a festive package filled with highlights from Iain MacDonald’s magical production of Cinderella which recently enjoyed an acclaimed season at the Joburg Theatre.
Presented by the Joburg Theatre in association with the City of Johannesburg, the annual Festival of Lights offers patrons entertainment and a night out in the Zoo for all ages, with an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters, entertainment, food and a craft night market.
The Festival of Lights is open from 7pm to 10pm daily except Mondays and patrons can enjoy a tranquil walk in the Zoo on a lit route away from the animals under trees decorated with enchanting lights. Tickets are R85 for children 3-12, R90 for pensioners and R165 for children 12+ and adults; entrance for children under 3 is free. Free parking is available in the Upper Park Drive parkade. Booking is at www.joburgtheatre.com or 0861 670 670.
The roles of Cinderella and the Prince will be danced by Tammy Higgins and Ivan Domiciano (26 & 30 Nov, 3 Dec), Monike Cristina and Ruan Galdino (27 Nov, 2 & 4 Dec), Shannon Glover and Bruno Miranda (29 Nov, 1 Dec). Cinderella performances start at 7pm. Entertainment is weather-dependent and casting is subject to change.
Another Joburg Ballet event to add to the holiday season calendar is Dancers Unite for Goodwill at the Joburg Theatre complex on Friday 25 November when Joburg Ballet, by way of the Joburg Ballet Cares programme directed by company manager Chase Bosch, hosts a fundraising performance. All proceeds go to Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children, Kitty and Puppy Haven and Cheryl Lyn’s Rescue Foundation. Stalls for merchandise and refreshments open at 14h00, performance with dancers of Joburg Ballet and from dance studios in Johannesburg begins at 15h00.
